Your 2 year well visit was this morning.
We have a referal for a Pediatric GI in Buffalo and an order for bloodwork, I'm not looking forward to either appointment.
You're still tall and you're still down some weight. I figure it's not easy to pack the pounds on anymore. Since you're ALWAYS running around and jumping and dancing any chance you get.
Hopefully we can get all of our questions answered without a stay in the hospital. Having you in there for anything makes me very nervous.

I hope that's the only time we have to do that.
You and I learned just what a pain in the butt tubes can be.
Your ears started leaking fluid on friday night. They can do that with tubes- in fact, they should. The fuild coming out of your left ear went from clear to this awesomely gross green-brown color by last night. They shouldn't keep leaking fluid and go unchecked and they really should be checked if the fluid isn't clear.
We went to the ENT office where they had to suction both of your ears out. That might be your least favorite thing this week, or even this month. I'll let you know.
Your left tube was totally plugged- which totally sucks. But Lucy fixed it.
Now let's keep those suckers clear so we don't have to do that again, k?

Today, has been terrible for me.
It hasn't been so great for you either. You had your adenoids out, tubes put in and an endoscopy.
I woke you up early so that you could have some water or juice before we went to the hospital. You couldn't have any milk or food after midnight, which wasn't so bad because you slept through most of that. But after 7:00A this morning you couldn't have anything, before that you could have clear liquids. You weren't interested in anything to drink at 6:00A, you just wanted to go back to sleep, I should have expected that.
We sat in the living room watching Sesame Street while we were waiting for daddy to get home, the rest of the morning seemed to drag on for-ever. You and I headed to admissions while daddy parked the car. Miss Michelle put a hospital bracelet on your ankle which DID NOT amuse you. Putting your socks back on over it fixed it all- thank heavens.
We were on the 9th floor for more than two hours just... waiting. We didn't know it then, but there was a problem with the first patient of the day so everyone else ended up being pushed back more than 1.5H. You could have cared less. There were plenty of toys and crayons to keep you happy. I on the other hand, wanted nothing more than to wiggle and whine in my chair.
Eventually we went down to the 2nd floor where we sat for another hour or so, again it seemed much longer to me. We still had to talk to the anesthesiologist and ENT before you actually went in to the operating room- everyone told me the day would drag on but I had no idea that it was going to feel so painfully slow. I didn't know that when they told us we were going "down stairs" that it meant in to the OR, so I didn't bring your Elmo. That meant daddy had to ride the terrible, slow, TINY elevator back up to 9, ask the nurse to open your locker and then make it back down to 2. Pretty sure he wasn't a fan of me at that point. I said I was sorry though. When he went on that trek you started the meltdown that I'd been waiting for all morning. You were tired and hungry- and just generally very sad. I asked if I could go with you in to the operating room- I didn't want you to go in upset and just get worse when you weren't with us anymore. Thankfully you fell asleep after I talked to the anaesthesiologist and before the ENT came to talk to us.
You were in the operating room for about 45min. That time seemed to fly, I was grateful for that. There was a tube helping you breathe while they were operating on you, when they took it out you started crying and wouldn't stop. You were still asleep which made everything that much more complicated. Parents aren't allowed in the recovery area until their child is awake. Your doctor had the nurses come to get me because she didn't want you ripping any of the stitches open in your throat while you were crying.
I am so glad she had them come get me.
You were sad and confused. You wanted someone's ears to hold and someone to hold you. I was more than willing to hold you and let you grab my ears. You were trying to rip off every wire they had attached to you. There was one for oxygen, 2 for your heart rate, a blood pressure cuff and your IV's. You wanted every one, OFF. I took disconnected what I could and turned you around so I could hold you and you could hold my ears. After I got you up on my shoulder the nurse got them back on so she could check your vitals so that we could leave the recovery area.
When we finally made it home you slept for 6 hours straight. You managed to eat four fruit and veg pouches when you woke up. It still seems like a lot of food- but you hadn't eaten in 24h. That's a long time for a little person with the kind of appetite you normally have.
You're not really interested in going back to sleep just yet. You'd rather snuggle with me and daddy on the couch watching a movie and that is perfectly fine with us.

Building a better you
Today we went to see an Ear Nose and Throat doctor. She checked out your earns, nose and throat; like any good ENT should. Unfortunately it wasn't so pretty in there- but I expected that. So now January 12th you'll be having tubes put in your ears and your adenoids taken out.
She's going to use a camera to take a peak down your throat to see if there is something in there that has been making you cough.
On the one hand, I don't want them to find anything terrible or gross when they take a peak; but I know that chances are they'll be able to fix whatever they find. I'm just very nervous at the thought of you having to endure more surgery, so for now we'll hope that it's something they can fix right then and there or something that can be corrected / maintained / mitigated with medication.

Well that's a relief, I suppose
You're headed back to normal- thank goodness. I couldn't take much more of that.
You had Roseola. It does make me feel better to have an explanation for all of the terrible of last week. I don't really enjoy that it could only be diagnosed AFTER the fact. But that's just the way it works.
If you wouldn't mind though, can we make it until your birthday without any other sort of ridiculous indecent? That'd be awesome. My nerves are pretty well shot.

This is my serious face.
You are very sick. You have a temperature over 103, you're throwing up- and the doctors don't know why.
You've got me more than a little worried at this point. So if you could do me a solid and knock it off, I'd appreciate it.

Six Months
You've made it to another milestone: Your very first Half Birthday, congratulations.
Somewhere in the last month you became very, VERY demonstrative of your feelings. I shouldn't find your irritated grunts and moans as funny as I do. But someday, god willing, when you have children of your own you will understand. It's been a very busy month for you. You seem to be convinced that the big kid's stuff is way better than yours, and god dammit, you want it.
You're still in the 95th%ile for head height and weight! You just won't quit. You're 20lbs 9oz and 30in tall.

Margaret CAN:
- pass things from hand to hand
- pick up small objects
- sit completely unassisted
- roll [back to front AND front to back, but only when she feels like it]
- feed herself!
Margaret likes:
- grown up food and still wants you to share
- her sippee cup, especially if it has apple juice
- Puffs!
- fresh peaches and cherries
- the sounds: oink, quack and woof
- Sid the Science Kid
- Sesame Street
Margaret does not like:
- people who won't share grown up food, yes sometimes that includes me
- reclining, she will sit herself up or use toy bars to pull herself to a seated position if put in a bouncer or infant rocker- this is most distressing
- the sounds: neigh, moo and cluck
You've come a long way baby and I super, duper, ouper, schmooper love you.

Just so there's no debating later..
You are a beast.
We took you to the pediatrician because you were still acting and sounding sickly. They measured and weighed you just like they do at every visit.
26in, 15lb 15oz
When your dad took you to the pediatrician 6 days ago you were 15lb 10oz, so it's pretty safe to say I don't need to worry about you losing weight when you're sick- because you most certainly are not.

Thanks for the scare!
Today I had to pick you up from day care in a near panic. You had a fever. You threw up. You weren't acting like yourself.
So I came to get you and then daddy came to take you to the pediatrician. They said you had a cold and it was no big deal. So we brought you home and snuggled you as much as you wanted. You didn't want to be held- you needed to be held. Any time either of us put you down you whimpered. It was hands down the saddest noise I've ever heard.
We'll probably keep you home from day care on Thursday too, we'll have to wait and see. For now I just hope you feel better. Because this is the pits.

Two Months
You madam are a trooper. You didn't even really fuss about your shots, you cried until I picked you up and then you stopped. You're still in the 95th%ile for Head, Height and Weight. But I've been told once again that you're being fed too much and that they'd like to see your weight come down on the curve by your next visit. Between you, me and the internets- I doubt it'll happen. You're now 15lbs 7oz and 26in, and I'm ok with that. Now lets get on to the list of Margaret cans!
She can:
She can:
- belly laugh!
- 1/2 roll
- sit with help
- reach for objects

One Month
Today was your 4 week check up. You're in the 95th%ile for Head, Height and Weight. There was a HUGE jump on the Weight Curve. Which didn't really surprise me, since you'd been taking 3-6oz every 2-3 hours. Eat that much food with a lazy life style and you're bound to see some poundage. You went from 7lb 11oz at birth, to 8lb 8oz at 1 week and then 11lb 7oz at 4 weeks.
Margaret can:
Twelve hours after the first bottle of the liquid formula it was like I had a different baby. There was no inexplicable screaming, no burps stuck in your tiny belly, and something I'm sure everyone was worried about- normal diapers.
It's been an interesting and exciting month, who knows what next month will bring.
Margaret can:
- hold up her head
- smile!
- do push-ups
- support weight on her legs
- follow objects
- grasp and hold
- coo

So far, so good
Today was your 1w Well Child Check Up. I was hoping you'd be above your birth weight so I'd know we were headed in the right direction- boy oh boy were you ever.
8lb 8oz 21 3/4in
I'm thinking at this rate you'll end up taller than me.

Hello Miss Margaret
How did you get here? Well, it was easier than we thought, but harder than I expected.
They all thought that I would have a hard time getting pregnant- but I proved them wrong. They all thought that I would have a hard time with labor and delivery- but you proved them wrong.
You were late. Just like me. Just like I am damn near everywhere I go, but that's ok. We went to Sister's Hospital on Tuesday night. I got checked in and changed. Then we waited for the Doctors and Nurses. They took some blood, checked my blood pressure and your heart rate. I had to have an ultrasound to make sure that there was enough fluid and that you had enough room. Thankfully the answer to both questions was yes and they started the induction. If the answers had been no I would have been prepped for surgery- and I wasn't really looking forward to that.
They gave me Cervidil to help get things moving and an Ambien to help me sleep. The Ambien didn't work but boy oh boy the Cervidil did. The Cervidil started contractions and eventually they got painful, so that meant Nubain for the pain... which did not work. Your Dad sat in the room reading and occasionally napping while I watched a Law and Order marathon. I was supposed to relax and sleep for the next 12 hours but it just wasn't happening. I couldn't get comfortable.
Every time I had to go to the bathroom I had to call a nurse to come unhook me. I had to have my IV and the monitors unplugged so I could get out of bed. The combination of Ambien and Nubain made me feel like I was drunk- which wasn't so great. I almost fell over a few times which gave me a good scare so I decided to try to stay in bed from there on out.
Some where around 2:30-3:00AM I sent your Dad home. He needed more books to read as well as coffee and snacks. It didn't make much sense for me to have both of us there when nothing was happening. After he left things started to pick up, I got more uncomfortable and I started to feel... funny. I asked to go to the bathroom again, that's when my water broke. So there was a very panicked call to your Dad telling him he needed to stop whatever the hell he was doing and come back.
I kept getting more and more uncomfortable so I eventually asked for an epidural. I surprised myself, I thought I'd be crying asking for pain medication early on- but I managed to keep it together for quite sometime.
I will freely admit that there were a few times where I lost it. Once in my head and once out loud. I lost it out loud when they told me to stop pushing. My doctor wasn't there yet and they couldn't get a hold of him. No one knew where he was. That was unbelievably uncomfortable. I cried. I grabbed the sides of the bed and squeezed. And then I cried some more. At one point during this whole ordeal I heard my nurse Jen say "meconium." Then she called the nurses station and asked them to page someone from Neonatology. It was at that point that I lost it in my head. I was so worried that something was going to go wrong.
I closed my eyes- and I waited. I kept trying to tell myself that there was nothing I could do to fix it, I would just have to wait it out and hope for the best. I opened my eyes when they told me that a doctor was there- because I wanted to see who it was. I quickly closed them again and went back to trying to calm myself down.
I didn't open my eyes again until I heard the Neonatologist say that everything was fine and the nurses asked your Dad if he'd brought a camera. I kept my eyes closed hoping that I wouldn't see something that would make me panic more.
You were born Wednesday, August 25 2010 at 10:18 in the morning- after what felt like the longest hour and a half of my life. You weighed 7lbs 11oz and you were 21in long.
Welcome to the world baby girl, it's going to be a long trip.
